It’s hard to not paint a completely dismal picture of North Korea. Having never been inside the country (but with hopes and plans to go), it’s hard to tell you about all the ‘wonderful’ things coming out of the country. Unfortunately all we hear is bad news. And even from the people we know inside North Korea and those who work across the border, it seems North Korea is a land of hopelessness much of the time. The country is still reeling from the famine back in the 90s, and there are still food shortages today.
According to the Associated Press, North Korea was short at least 1.5 million tons this year on food. The WFP and many NGOs are helping this crisis, but it’s hard to make a dent sometimes with the government being so restrictive. read this article about food shortages.
But it can’t be all bad news can it? I actually work with a ministry called Alpha Relief. And every year we send tons and tons and tons of food into North Korea. The way we have it set up is that the food goes directly to the underground believers in North Korea. This way we’re feeding the people who will then be able to do two things with the food:
1) share with their neighbors
2) stay alive in order to spread the gospel throughout North Korea
Pray for these people. Pray for the continual success of these projects.

North Korea is suffering from an extreme lack of the gospel. If found to be a Christian in North Korea you could be shot on site. There are hundreds of saddening and horrendous accounts of things being done to Christians inside North Korea. I’ll post some of those later on.
For now though I’ll end on a note of encouragement. The gospel is getting into North Korea. Through smuggling networks and people, the gospel is daily being given to North Koreans. There are some really cool projects going on with this. But I’ve been told they are actually too sensitive to post online. If you really want more info, check out Alpha Relief and get in touch with them.
